BHL WLED Lights: Gemini Connection Help

Troubleshoot Gemini access to compatible WLED lights in your Bright Home Lights cloud account, from sign-in to missing devices and lighting requests.

Start with the symptom that matches your screen. Keep the BHL app open so you can compare its account and device-access settings with Gemini.

01

I cannot find Custom apps

Check that you are setting up the connection in a browser on a computer. Google’s account and regional requirements may affect whether the option appears. Compare your account with the current custom-app requirements.

The screenshots show an example Spark interface, not a Spark-only requirement. Once connected on the web, custom apps work in chat or Spark on web and mobile. Eligibility requires a personal Google account, age 18+, US location, English and Keep Activity enabled; work and school accounts are unsupported. Menu labels may change. Look for Connected Apps in Settings, including under Personal Intelligence if shown.

02

The MCP URL is rejected or Next stays unavailable

Clear the field and paste the complete BHL URL again. Remove any spaces before or after it. Do not paste the sample your-app-link.com address from the screenshot.

If Gemini asks for additional credentials you have not been given, stop at that screen and contact BHL support through the Help Center with the exact message shown.

The BHL sign-in does not finish

  1. Complete the sign-in window that opens and return to the original Gemini tab.
  2. Use the BHL account that holds your lights.
  3. Check whether Bright Home Lights already appears in Connected Apps before adding it again.
  4. If the flow still fails, record the visible error message and the step where it stops for BHL support.

Keep passwords and sign-in codes out of support screenshots.

04

BHL is connected, but my devices are missing

  1. In the BHL app, confirm that your devices are present in the account you connected.
  2. Open Settings → Integrations → Gemini and select Manage devices & presets.
  3. Review the devices enabled for AI access and save your changes.
  4. In Gemini, confirm the Bright Home Lights switch is on, select the app with @, and ask which devices it can access.

Enabling devices in BHL and connecting Gemini are separate steps. Both need to be complete.

Changing access affects other assistants

These BHL settings are shared with other AI assistants connected to the same BHL account. Review the selection before saving.

Review the device selection in BHL. The displayed count is an example.

How do I disconnect Bright Home Lights?

In Gemini’s Connected Apps, find Bright Home Lights:

  • Turn the switch off: stop Gemini from using the app.
  • More details → Disconnect: unlink the MCP server and revoke its permissions; the app stays in Connected Apps.
  • More details → Remove app: remove the app and unlink the MCP server.

Follow the prompts for the option you choose.

To change which BHL devices other assistants can access, review Manage devices & presets separately in BHL.

Why can’t the assistant see my local WLED controller?

Control compatible WLED lights connected to your Bright Home Lights cloud account using natural language. Devices must be connected to your BHL cloud account and enabled for AI access. A standalone local WLED controller is not automatically accessible through the BHL MCP connector; support depends on the device and firmware. This connection does not provide arbitrary raw WLED commands.

First confirm the device appears and responds in the BHL app, then enable it for AI access. If it is missing, follow the BHL WLED controller Wi-Fi setup guide or ask BHL support about compatibility.
